I used my last week of branding to finalise and remove the techniques that haven’t worked with creating my samples. I decided one of my disjointed knit pieces simply didn’t fit into my collection as the shape and placement of the individual pieces failed to work as well as I anticipated. As an alternative I decided to make my disjointed knits larger. Also I aimed to remove some of the mixed colour yarns by replacing them with the block colours. In doing this I believe my work will relate more to Helen Lawrence’s work. I want to ensure that my work brings out the visual identity of her brand.
I will be continuing my concept of entrapment and capture in my knit samples by trapping and weaving yarns to suggest and represent my mark-making. I intend to use machine embroidery techniques to trap yarn and fabrics on my knits. This will allow me to incorporate these techniques and allow my concepts to flow throughout my project.
With the main brief I feel that I haven’t expressed enough
of my own identity and personality in bringing the knit samples together. I hope to bring together unusual yarns and materials which will combine to create and suggest a matte look to the texture. I plan on looking at knitwear from Lee Da Young and Martina Spetlova themselves. By doing this I aim to see the types of unusual materials
and techniques they employ to inspire me to create and bring my own unique style into my samples.
