1.1.7 Evaluation of Origins Unit.

Through out the unit I found developing my work difficult at the start, but I knew I needed to find my theme running through my research which I figured was mainly pattern I was looking at. Once I established this, then the connection between practise and my research started developing my ideas and moving further.

Selecting drawings I did in the first 2 weeks because of the colour pallet, then having a play with the repeating of the image making pattern. I started to find outcomes I liked and wanted to work with.

I feel like I do use my time wisely and precision plan is key to this, knowing what I need to produce in the day in the studio but with it being a reasonable amount to achieve and being manageable, helped me a lot with getting samples made on the loom or knitting machine and getting things done progressively.

Learning that studio time is precious and any chance to be in and working is time well spent and best chance of getting my idea further along and progressing.

My contextual references influenced me and my work a lot, to make my samples more interesting and 3d. Bringing something more to the sample, other than something flat and 2d, making structure of it.

I feel like I am managing time wisely, using my time commuting on the train to note make or even task lists for the night ahead or the day after, so I am ready to get cracking when it comes round. Making sure I am in 5 days a week making the most of the facilities, using the macs  or studio space or on a knitting machine or loom, so I am always moving on and developing. Using the constructive criticism and working on it.

I feel like i have been using lateral thinking when it comes to translating my ideas from the pages of my sketchbook and creating sample pieces, having a strong connection between them both. Taking the idea and creating it in a sample.

1.1.6 Combining the Two.

Combining my friday drawing into my origins project, I wanted to bring this one in particular together with my origins work because it was based on mark making and with out mark making and finding the pattern I feel like there is no design to be made.
I played a lot round with taking pictures of my drawing and layering it up with one of my designs, and I find the outcome to be quite effective, Bring more interest and dimension to the photo.

1.1.5 Johan Ku.

Good old Google search brought me to a knit wear designer, Johan Ku. Looking through some of his pieces, I just couldn't figure what was coming and going, the complication of knit and how its all held together, and just the question of 'how is that done?'
Especially with the top photo, it looks like the wool has started to wear apart or has been torn and doesn't really know what to do, so she's worn it in a way that it still covers her all up, but yet is still a full wearable piece.
The second photo is more sophisicated pieces, with some of them being rather classy or damn confusing cables. Really do find his work interesting and confusing.

This is something I want to bring to my Knit unit, I really love the idea of the confusion behind the piece, to make the viewer think 'How'? The mystery behind the piece, He's definitely somebody that I want to relate back to.

1.1.4 Bringing the Idea to Life.

Bring the idea the colours and the pattern to life taking what I have drawn out and taking it to the knitting machine. Having an advantage on a few other and knowing a lot more on the Knitting machine before starting uni, I had made my samples before the rest, so I spoke to the student teacher who gave me a few ideas about taking my ideas and actually trying to bringing them into some sort of Final piece, for myself to see what resemblance I come get from it and how I could recreate it.
With the first one I really enjoyed the idea of designing what would look best where and how what technique would be the bests to recreate another part of it. Cant wait to carry on.

1.1.3 Layering

One of my friend introduced me to an app on my iPhone called 'Coowl' Which allows me to layer my photos on top of each other, and see the effect of both.

So with this I went away and experimented with my photos and drawings too see what I could come out with, I took 1 of my drawing and 1 of my photos of my weave and layered them on top of each other to see the effect.

With the first to come I thought that it could help with designing what I wanted to do on my weave pieces, what colours and in what kind of proportion they could be in on a Honey Comb weave.

With the second one I took a page from my sketch book and a picture of my weave, and layered them on top of each other, this helped to see what could suit the pattern I used with colours and proportions I had chosen.

I think the App is a good way of experimenting and exploring with my own work to see what kind of outcome I could get with different colour combinations, patterns and proportions. Something I think is going to be very useful.
