1.3.3. Taking away.

With it being the last week or so on the loom, I wanted to make the most of the chance to move my work on and see how far I could push it.
Id been working with a colour palette of purple, navy, black, white and blue, However with the theme of Art deco, I felt like my pattern was lost within the multitude of my colour, so I went back throughout  my sketchbook and had a look on how my drawing read across to me. I found they work so well in my sketchbook because the pattern isn't battling to be seen in-between colour, Its just black and white. With that, I went back and stripped back everything but black and white, and the occasional blue. I am finding that it is working so much better now that it did before.
Playing round with notations and working in more weft base weaves so that the pattern has a solid white back round to stand out on. As well adding in some weave manipulation, Which I really did like the idea of. I found a lot of the techniques I used on pinterest, and a few of them corresponded well with my drawn out pattern, so I worked them in, It proved to be a big difference in texture and appeal, rather than just a notation.

1.3.2. 3Dimensional.

With weave I wanted to find a way of making my pieces more that just a flat pretty looking sample, I wanted to bring dimension, texture and also pattern.
I looked at a few Weave Manipulation techniques such as; Leno, Brookes bouquet and Danish Medallion, so I could incorporate to create my patterns as well as bring a different sort of texture to them.
Of course with all this I have been thinking about bring different elements of what I have learn in the past to bring to my samples and use to my advantage, Such as Knitting. I have been using yarn knitted into fine tubes and weaving them in and creating loops and elements of my choice with them. Also I was thinking about introducing some Cornely and Hand stitch into some of them that are completely finished.
After the talk we had from V.V Rouleaux it inspired me to be more creative in the way I am creating my samples and to the approach I take to making, some of the materials she used in her processes definitely made me think twice and make me want to improve on quality of fabric, threads and yarn.
After speaking with my tutor we agreed that I still don't think I have the colour proportion right and I am really wanted to make my surface plainer to bring the pop of the shape back into the samples, so that there is still an essence of art deco mixed with my patterns. Over all a lot of work to do.

1.3.1. FairGrounds, Weaving On + Marianne Kemp.

Marianne Kemp- Google.

The trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach was something of an eye opener, the information we received through a presentation about the past designs of the rides, finding that it is not just fashion that tries to keep up to speed with design and exterior look of the park, moving with fashion of the era.

The one thing that caught my attention was the use of pattern and design mostly Art deco in the park and how not all of it was whisked away with time. The use of it with in the park and details of the dresses in the theatre shows.
This is the angle I want to look at going into Fairground, focusing on the pattern of rides and use of shape.

Since then I sought out to find independent Fairgrounds, to see if they had something of the same style and pattern. Finding that it wasn’t just the Pleasure Beach that was trying to keep up with the moving design, it was most independent and travelling attractions.
Taking a lot of research away from both places, I wasn’t to carry on with the angle I am looking at Fairgrounds from and search more Art Deco and Fairground Patterns and see where it takes me.

Going into Passementerie  weave and stitch, I was unsure what to expect or how it would all unravel.

After been shown what exactly could be created through both weave and stitch Ive started with pattern making and exploring other weavers work. With hope of filling me with inspiration and ideas to bring into my weave.

I started to look through Marianne Kemp's work, I want to bring structure and texture to my pieces, Taking the idea from Marianne and using the yarn as a 3D aspect to the work. I want to bring dimension and some shape to my work other than it just being flat, working on texture and build.
I really like the idea that some of Marianne's work doesn't look like some that would be made on a loom so its the process after its been made that makes it what it is, Its something I really want to work  on. As well as that I am currently always search through Pinterest for new an different things to move my work on you can find my board here.
